REVIEW BY: Couver.
“I was born a man, that’s why I wanna make it big!” (Use the blue pill kid, it works wonders). With that Akito Takagi proposes to Moritaka Mashiro an idea that combines the skills and brains of our 2 main character.
Manga?! Moritaka Mashiro, a junior in High school, is introduced to us on the anime series Bakuman. The series starts out with an intro from some wack-ass oldies, plain anime series that would have probably been a hit back in the the day, Which we later find out was based on a manga created by Mashiro’s uncle (who shall remain unnamed). Ok, here are the specs: a junior in high school student is good at drawing an decides to draw on a manga/anime style, the uncle gets pissed off that he didn’t make it big in the industry and decides to not say ‘manga’ anymore, but wishes the kid good luck.
Basically we are put to a short intro to the story of two kids drawing and writing (thank the lord for the director of this thing), sounds kinda like Kampfer, first 2 or 3 episodes: Getting there, the rest of the series: All the good juicy stuff we all know and love (no homo). So after the double intro’s and a shot of our main character’s ‘young’ days, I am horrified to find out that one of the characters has a mouth worthy of a rabbit, poor girl must have gone through a lot on middle school, must have been tough for her growing up (no comment). And if you pay close attention, all the ‘extras’ (unused characters) appear to be related in some sort of form, the animators didn’t bother to at least change the eye style on every other extra. How sad. Viewing this peculiar animation, you are bound to notice anime and manga references such as Death note, and some other board game based manga…………
After leaving his notebook in class, our dear friend returns to retrieve it and finds out that a freaky low life blondie (seriously) had been waiting for him ever since school had ended and appears to be holding, no way, yeah, the darn book. After reassuring Moshiro that he will surrender the book to him (Which contained several drawings of this one chick who he likes) he reveals his all time secret: he’s a stalker that doesn’t do $h!t in class and just sits there all day looking at what people are doing just for the fun of it and later realized that this guy was good at drawing and decided to stare at him the most and decides to wait for him to give him his book back just to tell him all this crap (seriously). Which overall sounds pretty gay to me.
Believe me kids, it’s not half as interesting as I’m making it sound. Well thanks to some animation director in japan, we can watch a story that isn’t better than other out-coming anime series at the expense of time. No, but seriously people, more emphasis was needed on the characters and all that other good stuff, but we can’t blame the animators, blame the manga artist for that poor chick with the rabbit genes. Overall, the plot is pretty reasonable and creative, and it’s amusing to watch two kids try to reach their dream in 25 episodes. There’s creativity here, and I would recommend to at least give it a try, it might actually turn up to be good.
